What is a “Certified Hand Therapist”?

A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an occupational or physical therapist with a minimum of five years of direct clinical experience in hand therapy who has taken a national certification exam. Only after passing the exam and meeting the criteria established by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission can the therapist use the CHT credentials. To ensure that all therapists remain current and achieve only excellent results with all patients, every CHT is required to demonstrate continued professional development and competency by recertifying every five years.
