For nearly 23 years, Mike served as the executive vice-president and chief financial officer of Southern Maryland HealthCare System (SMHS) Inc., comprised of several health care-related businesses affiliated with Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, Maryland. The SMHS businesses included outpatient physical and occupational rehabilitation services, home health care, nursing contracting services, home medical equipment (HME) sales, rentals and distribution, primary and pediatric care services, asthma and allergy services, outpatient MRI and comprehensive radiology services.
At SMHS, Mike was responsible for the administrative and financial aspects of the healthcare system, including, but not limited to, financial oversight, tax administration, internal audit, information systems, revenue management, and human resources. In addition, Mike was responsible for the management and financial oversight of other ancillary support companies within SMHS, including medical billing and collections, property management and construction services, hospitality (including food and beverage management), and commercial and residential real estate management.
Prior to joining SMHS in 1990, Mike worked as a senior accountant/auditor with the international accounting firm Grant Thornton. Mike previously served on the Board of Directors for both SMHS, Inc. and Better Life Home Medical, Inc. He is also an acting member of the Southern Maryland Hospital and Health System Retirement Savings Plan Investment Committee.
Mike holds a B.S. in Business and Economics and an A.A. in Computer Science from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
